The Blue Dot Jawfish or Opistognathus rosenblatti is a brightly colored aquarium fish that was first discovered in 1991. Also known as the Bluespotted Jawfish, this saltwater fish originated in Mexico. It has a body that is bright orange with blue spots all over. This species of Jawfish has an elongated dorsal fin that almost extends the length of its body.
When kept in an aquarium, the Blue Dot Jawfish can grow to about 3-1/2" and should have the following water conditions, 72-78° F, pH 8.1-8.4, sg 1.020-1.025, and KH 8-12. An aquarium of 40 gallons or more is recommended and be sure to have a tight lid as these fish are jumpers! Be careful they can become aggressive especially towards their own species, although they can be kept in a mated pair. Other less aggressive fish should do fine with this gorgeous saltwater fish. As you can see in the video below they are quite the characters in a tank and will spend lot of time at the bottom digging and peaking out...The Blue Dot Jawfish is a carnivore that should be fed meaty foods such as marine fish, mysid shrimp and crustacean flesh. This needs to be done three times a day. One last thing to note is that these fish really like to burrow as you can see, so be sure to provide them will a good mixed substrate at the bottom of your tank to keep them happy.
